I think that I’ve gone over this bit of dialogue with Saffron well over a hundred times after she’s done something that she needs to apologize for (we’ll say hitting Grenadine, this time):
“Saffron, do you need to say something to Grenadine?”
“Sorry Grendine”
“What does sorry mean?”
“No more.”
“No more what?”
“No more hitting”
“Okay, thank you”
Saffron was running her legacy Fisher Price popper around the house and helped it to find its way onto the coffee table. “No, Saffron, not on the coffee table”, I say.
Pause. “Why?”
First time she’s said that and I’m sure that it won’t be the last time - Heidi and I just looked at each other and wondered if we had witnessed the first why, we had. Bring it on little question-asker.
This is the ending theme song from the Backyardigans, I bargained with Saffron to get her to sing it by telling her that I’d let her listen to it afterwards. Truthfully, she almost never stops singing and rarely needs to be coaxed, just sometimes for the camera.
Intended Lyrics: We’ve got the whole wide world in our yard to explore! Now it’s time for us to have a snack, meet you next time when we’re back with your friends, the Backyardigans! See ya later!
Grenadine did her first 8 hour stretch at night a few days ago! We (mostly Heidi) are so excited to be getting a bigger stretch of sleep at night. She can sometimes even go a whole 12 hours at night with only 1 wakeup which is a huge boost to our sleepy needs. The price that needs to be paid in cluster feeds in the evening though, is high.
After frequently trying for a number of months, Saffron has decided to let us put hair clips and tails in her hair. Normally, if we tried, it would last about 2 seconds and she’d rip them out but on Thursday she was game for some new hair adventures.
In the last few days Saffron has started to ‘feed’ some of her toys which we think is hilarious. She started off feeding her Ronald McDonald toy and since she received some Mr Potato Head’s on her birthday, those have become the target of her affection. Watch the video to see it all happen.
Saffron is always talking about how she likes to sit in Ruben’s Bumbo, but we just checked and now Grenadine is actually big enough to enjoy it. So far, she really likes sitting in there and smiling around. Reminds me of Damien and Deyen (thanks Ruben for lending it out!).
Grenadine and Saffron’s baby Baily (formerly Heidi’s) happened to have their bear suits on as they were preparing for a little trek outdoors - easy photo opportunity!
Heidi took Saffron to our favorite veggie stand where they were having a huge pumpkin sale and Heidi likes nothing more than posing kids in (and amongst) pumpkins.
