hunted churches

On a different note, I've taken Bruce's advice: "The challenge is to completely turn around the criteria and take a bold step of faith. Don't look for a church that meets your needs - look for a church that needs you and the gifts that you bring. Once you find something that twigs in that way, commit to the church for the year and don't look back."
Today was week 2 at a new church in my series of 'hunted churches'. This is how I ended up going there. I attended the Jon Buller HTM worship night in July. They said they needed volunteers, so I emailed them. I got to volunteer the next month (which would be August). At that worship night, I met Amy. We chatted, and she invited me to her church. I couldn't go that week 'cuz of work, so I went the next week. I didn't see her, but I did fill out the 'new to your church form' and I signed up for Alpha (I never seemed to be able to go to it when I was at FGCC). Not only did I get a letter in the mail from them, but one of the pastors actually called me. So I went to 2 churches again today, one of which is this new one. Bruce's words came through, and I also thought of something I think I heard Brennan Manning say once, but adapting it to me: "When I am serving, that is when I feel closest to God". So I signed up for their volunteer training night this week.
It's not so much that the church 'seemed to click' - it was a simple decision to become involved in a church that loves God and is dedicated to finding people willing to serve. On my own, it probably wouldn't be a church I would look at attending ... it wasn't on my list actually, I just decided to take up someone's invitation. Or maybe it was God's invitation. After all, I have been noticing the incredible amount of design in my circumstances.
